Essential Functions/Responsibilities/Duties
- Effectively responds to patients on the phone and in person to
their questions and issues.
- Listens to and interprets patient concerns correctly while
asking probing questions to get to the root of the problem.
- Performs routine billing functions such as posting patient
encounters, billing insurance companies, encouraging payment,
receiving payments, and generating end-of-day reports.
- Answers patient calls in a call center environment, working on
all accounts and using appropriate websites and payment
systems.
- Ensures accurate and complete data and forms are collected from
all patients.
- Updates billing and demographic information via online billing
systems as needed. Documents pertinent account information
pertaining to all patient issues and outcomes.
- Interacts and communicates with all functions of the revenue
cycle department.
- Makes outbound calls to set up payment arrangements and follow
up on delinquent accounts.
- Evaluate the guarantor's financial status, previous account
information, eligibility tools, employment history, and all other
income verification documentation to determine sliding fee
eligibility.
- Reviews cash box receipts and reconciles cash box daily.
- Identifies possible compliance and quality of care issues and
refers them to the supervisor for resolution.
- Participates in Education, Training, and Cross-training
activities as needed.
Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or General Education Diploma
(GED).
- Experience: One year of experience in a healthcare coding,
billing, or front office role is required. Previous experience in
Epic Required. Two years' experience in a revenue cycle role in a
medical billing setting or customer service environment, including
significant direct customer contact by phone or in person
preferred. FQHC billing and Accounts Receivable experience
preferred. One year of experience working with customer calls or in
a call center is preferred.
- Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Certified Revenue Cycle
Representative (CRCR) Preferred
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Bilingual (English/Spanish)
required. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate at level 9 on
the language proficiency scale to receive bilingual differential
pay. Proficiency with various computer programs, including EpiCare,
Prelude, Resolute, Word, and Excel. Strong attention to detail and
accuracy. Strong written, active listening, and verbal
communication skills that are professional and concise. Strong
customer relations skills are preferred. Knowledge of
coding/billing preferred. Knowledge of medical/dental terminology
data entry is preferred. Knowledge of accounts receivable processes
is preferred. Ability, knowledge, and skills to use and understand
billing coding books and guides. Skills to multitask and remain
calm under pressure. Works well independently and within a
team.
