Project Background:

Project assists government is making technology investment decisions through research and reporting on various technologies, specific requests, and innovation trends across a wide range of industries/discipline areas.

Role Description :

The Junior technical Writer will support government clients through research and developing reports about existing or evolving technologies that interest the government or stakeholders. The Junior Technical Writer will be experienced in translation of technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel. Must have demonstrated ability to organize material and write descriptive copy and select appropriate images to illustrate written material. The position requires someone who can develop communication materials for publications, internet, strategic initiatives, user manuals, training materials, reports, etc. Topic areas vary, but are directly or indirectly related to homeland security, first responders, and emergency management.

Tasks/Responsibilities :

• Assist in the gathering, analysis, and composition of complex technical information. This includes conducting research and ensuring the proper use technical terminology.
• Provide translation of technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.
• Organize material and write descriptive copy according to established standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology.
• Select appropriate photographs, drawings, images, sketches, diagrams and charts to illustrate written material.
• Develop communication materials for publications, internet, strategic initiatives, white papers, reports, etc.
• Develop, write, and edit functional descriptions, system specifications, special reports, or any other customer deliverable and document.
• Provide technical writing support and decipher directions provided on scripted storyboards, specifications, etc.
• Review documents for technical accuracy in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Support content curation and management on networks and web platforms.
• Provide input and assistance in preparing project briefs/presentations, composing project reports and documents, and other project related materials.
• Assist in communication with internal and external stakeholders and other government service providers. Coordinate with all respective offices and personnel to accomplish such tasks.
• Assist with the development of communication strategies, plans, and outreach. Originate new or refine draft briefings, posters, newsletters, websites and other communications devices in accordance with prevailing DHS polices, templates, and guidance. Coordinate publication of documents with the respective program offices, maintain records of cleared documents and those in progress.
  Required Skills, Experience and Education :
  
  • 3 years of communications experience in a federal consulting environment;
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline;
  • Must be highly organized with an exceptional attention to detail;
  • Must be able to work both independently and with a team;
  • Knowledge of various writing styles such as Associated Press and plain language;
  • Ability to think strategically and long term while "connecting the dots" with other program/project areas;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel and Word;
  • Verbal communication and writing ability geared towards public outreach;
    Preferred Skills :
    
    • Experience working with the emergency management/first responder/homeland security community
    • Experience creating and giving presentations (PowerPoint)
      Clearance Requirements :
      
      • US Citizenship required
      • Ability to obtain a DHS EOD/Suitability clearance
