Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks a Mail Processing - Driver who will be responsible for interdepartmental mail and package delivery on both campus courier routes, special delivery on campus/between campuses, and shipping, receiving and inventory of supplies, materials and property in the Purchasing and Materials Management Department of the College. This work supports timely and efficient delivery of mail and packages to departments and effective shipping and receiving for proper inventory and surplus of property which assists the College in meeting its mission of student success and completion. This position reports to the Warehouse Operator 3.

This position is open until filled. First consideration will be given to applicants whose complete application has been received by May 6, 2021 @ 11:59 PM Pacific Time. Primary Responsibilities

  • Regularly drive small vehicle trucks/vans to pick-up, transport and deliver interdepartmental mail, packages and items such as athletic supplies, drapes, furniture, custodial supplies, laboratory equipment, printing stock and parcel post both on campus and to off-site vendor outlets; deliver items to correct locations on/off campus and obtain appropriate signatures to verify delivery; move, load and unload vehicle; make deliveries for commercial surface or air transport services; establish delivery priorities and delivery destination points through coordination with activities supported;
  • Use specialized material handling equipment incidental to the transport of supplies and equipment such as forklifts, stock chaser, dollies, hand trucks and hydraulic lifts;
  • Process bulk and individual outgoing mail from departments to/from foreign and domestic areas that require postage and/or special mailing classifications; determine most cost-effective method for mailing;
  • Operate mail equipment such as inserters, folders, trimmers and bursters, tabbers, high-speed address printers, postage equipment address verification systems, small package manifest, and mail management systems; inspect, clean, maintain and troubleshoot mailing equipment/machines;
  • Answer customer inquiries and resolve routine customer problems;
  • Operate automated order processing system (Procure+) and other on-line functions (UP, FedEx, and QTrak); track time-sensitive orders, receive and accurately route items purchased; record and notify end user of order status; call on status of past-due orders and return items to vendor;
  • Unload, unpack, inspect and count items received for condition, quantity, and correctness of materials (including flammable and hazardous materials) against shipping and PO documents; sort and route mail and packages for interdepartmental deliveries, prepare items for return, request Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) Number from vendor, fill out paperwork and call appropriate shipper;
  • Maintain stockroom inventory and determine storage locations/placement of stock inventory; spot check stock inventory for accuracy of records, establish minimums/maximums on stockroom inventory, and utilize on-line ordering system to replenish stock as necessary; monitor usage of stockroom items and add/discontinue items as needed;
  • Gather items from stock and issue them to fill department requests; maintain warehouse arrangement and maximizes space utilization to accommodate current stock;
  • Conduct ongoing property inventory control maintenance; responsible for accurate maintenance of accounting records that identify asset inventory on hand in addition to that being shipped and received;
  • Make, assign and apply tags to assets required to be inventoried; conduct physical inventories; prepare and maintain perpetual inventory, records and correspondence files; keep other records as required;
  • Oversee or perform disposal of surplus or excess property;
  • Organize, transport, load, sort, and prepare surplus or excess property for disposition; file appropriate paperwork necessary for Department of Enterprise Services (DES) Surplus transfers, public sales, internet sales, recycling, etc.; schedule pickup and viewing appointments; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent; and
  • Possession of a valid unrestrictedU.S. driver'slicense.

Preferred Qualification:

  • One year of experience sorting and distributing mail;
  • Technical experience in retail clerking, warehousing, stock-keeping, shipping or receiving and operation of materials management.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is a twelve (12) month, full-time, overtime eligible, represented, classified staff position. The typical work hours for this position are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; however, must be available to work a flexible schedule when prior notice is given by the College. This position is available immediately.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including frequent traveling between buildings on campus and driving employer vehicles off and around campus. Duties involve physical strength, agility and endurance to bend/reach, lift, pull or push objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as standard office equipment, forklift, pallet jack, hand cart, etc. as well as mobile technology such as smart phones with specialized software and systems for mail and package delivery.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work environment is primarily performed in a typical warehouse setting that includes some exposure to hazards or physical risks that require following basic safety and driving precautions. Interruptions occur on a regular basis. Moderate exposure to adverse weather conditions and unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust and/or uneven surfaces, while making deliveries throughout campus and to external delivery services.
